Brian Van Smith

     Over the course of the past few years, I have taken several opportunities to volunteer my time to a cause.

     I began volunteering in order to obtain enough service-hours to reach the minimum for Confirmation under the Catholic Church.  Most of these hours were spent cutting-out papers for my neighbor, who worked as a science teacher, to make packets for her class.  I enjoyed doing this work as I found it satisfying and appreciated how it kept me busy.

     After I exceeded the necessary amount of hours, I did my best to volunteer whenever I could, often going to beach-cleanups or food-packing events with my sisters and grandmother.

     Most recently, I have taken-care of several neighbor's houses, while they've been away.  Some of the main jobs I've done for the neighbors include watering their plants, turning their lights on and off to make the house look lived-in, and taking their trashcan down on Sundays.
